Morning Rituals to Become Unstoppable
June 30, 2015
Eliminate decisions, accelerate self-improvement and maximize each day.
Hit snooze and follow the morning up with Lucky Charms and SportsCenter?
Get up, caffeinate, and hit the gym?
Normally, I stick to my morning ritual because to me, the first few hours are indicative of how successful my day will be.
But…Every now and then, I fail miserably, hit snooze, and roll back over in bed.
Despite my occasional lapse, I have outlined more morning rituals to become unstoppable while giving you strategies to amplify your energy and productivity.
Five days per week I attempt to start my morning the same way: with my alarm vibrating at 4:00 AM.
The incessant chirping gets louder, and finally, I give in. After a few groans I’m up and heading to the bathroom for the most satisfying pee known to mankind.
Next, I stagger into the kitchen. Coffee maker—boom, ready to roast some caffeinated gold while I slam 32 ounces of water.
Now, I’m rollin’ and feeling awesome.
I grab my water or athletic greens, coffee, and head upstairs to my office, and meditate using the Headspace App for 10 minutes.
After that, I stretch for a minute or two and pop open my laptop for an hour of dead-silent, uninterrupted writing before I take more first clients at 5:30 or 5:45 A.M.
Why am I telling you all this?
It’s simple—decision fatigues us all, and setting your day with consistent morning rituals helps you become unstoppable. <Tweet that bruh!>
Waking at 4:00 A.M. is a shock to the body no doubt. But the stillness, focus, and clarity of thought before the day accelerates at a blistering pace is liberating…especially for a hyper-active, overly caffeinated spaz like me.
That early 60-90 minute session five days per week allows me to knock out blog posts put work in on a major article, or work on my top-secret major project (get updates here).
When trianing my clients I follow the same routine when they get into the gym: Pop down onto the ground for quadruped hip and trunk activation exercises, followed by a dynamic warm-up performed in the same order. The same exact thing, every single time.
Amidst the chaos of life, whether you’re a dedicated entrepreneur, busy student-athlete, or corporate executive, morning routines and daily rituals provide clarity. They help you dominate the day.
How to Set Morning Rituals to Become Unstoppable in Three Steps
➢ Pick a short-list of tasks you would like to accomplish today that improve your mental or physical health, money, or mindset. Example: I need to meditate each day to practice relaxation and living in the moment, rather than jumping from task to task. I need to write with a clear mind for an hour each day, otherwise I’m rushed, angry, and scatter-brained with all my ideas.
➢ Start the day off with small victories. Big victories might be sexy, but if you bite off more than you can chew you won’t develop the habit. Pick something that you enjoy that improves your mindset, outlook, business, or health. And do it daily. Example: Sure, meditating 30 minutes might be ideal for some, but there’s no way I will get that done right now. Ten minutes is an acceptable trade-off and something I will make time for every day.
➢ Keep a distraction free environment and get one task completed. Yes, waking up at 4:00 A.M. sucks when the alarm goes off. But once I wake up, I feel great. Waking up and accomplishing something for personal growth of the growth of BachPerformance.com before my day takes off with personal training sessions, calls, and consultations? It helps me consistently improve myself in the most time efficient manor. Example: Wake up, warm-up and hit the gym when you first get-up, instead of after work. It should be no surprise my most consistent clients are the early risers. They get their workout done before the chaos of the day consumes them and they put training off until “tomorrow.”
Early morning is the only time I can keep my mind “mine” before decision fatigue ensues from untimely client cancellations or reschedules, emails from editors or podcasts, social media updates, or whatever else I have going on.
Instead of putting out “small fires” and never hammering out my most meaningful tasks I schedule pre-planned, automatic times to serious work done.
At the end of the day, I feel unstoppable.
I accomplish what I want to accomplish without undue stress, self-doubt, and decision fatigue.
Yea, 4:00 A.M. still sucks, but I’ll take “ winning the day” and feeling unstoppable 100 times of out 100.
Now, It’s Your Turn
Pick your short list of tasks that are vital for your enjoyment and self-growth, and put them before anything else during the day.
Get up a bit earlier and start the day off with small victories. Small victories lead to big changes. After all, one pound of fat-loss per week seems small, but on a macro-scale 52 pounds of fat loss in a year is incredible.
Set a distraction free environment and get one task completed.Mornings are best, but I understand you probably have a crazy schedule. Find a time and protect it over all other tasks. If you won’t protect your time for self-improvement no one else will either.
Now, go out there and be unstoppable,
